Floyd Mayweather has insisted that he expects a ‘wild and dirty’ fight from rival Marcos Maidana in their rematch in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
The unbeaten American improved to a 46-0 record after winning their initial bout back in May, but he has since insisted that his opponent was particularly dirty in his approach.
He was greeted with a “stop crying and just fight” response from his Argentinian foe, but Mayweather insists that he will stick to his game-plan and be effective in the right ways when they lock horns for a second time on Saturday.
“I just have to go out there and just be me and be first,” Mayweather said, Sky Sports report.
“I can’t really say how the fight is going to play out, but I’m pretty sure he’s going to be once again extremely dirty and wild. My job is to keep everything under control the best way that I can.
“The (first) fight was not close. He came out, he won the first round, I won the second round, he won the third and the fourth, and from the fifth on he lost every round.
“If you guys notice, I got tackled, the guy tried to knee me, I got a head butt, there were rabbit punches, there were low blows and the list goes on and on.”
Mayweather claims that he had two jobs during their first fight, both as a boxer and the referee in order to deal with all the alleged illegal blows he received.
However, that isn’t going to matter on Saturday night as he looks to protect his record with speculation surfacing over the past fortnight that victory could pave the way for a mega-fight with long-time rival Manny Pacquiao next year.
It remains to be seen whether or not it is merely another false dawn for the pair, but ultimately, Mayweather can ill-afford to lose focus this weekend as he hopes to find a way to put on a more convincing showing and dismiss the challenge of Maidana once and for all. It will come as no surprise that he is confident of doing so…
