World Cup begins in bizarre fashion as a male model cops all the blame on social media.
It seems football fans don’t read Twitter bios when they are angry about something that happens in game.
That can only be the way to explain how male model Marcello copped a torrent of abuse from people around the world after his Brazilian namesake Marcelo scored the first goal of 2014 World Cup – for Croatia.
The non-guilty, non-football player tried to direct the abuse to the correct account but it did not matter as these funny and shocking tweets show.
To all those hurling abuse at me for scoring an own goal, please re-direct your anger to @12MarceloV. Thank you

Yep! That must be how I hit the ball to the back of the wrong net… “@PaulEdwards1973: Amazing @Marcello is tweeting during the game” — Marcello (@Marcello) June 12, 2014
NO WONDER YOU SCORING OWN GOAL IF YOU TWEETING DURING GAME YOU FUKING IDIOT @Marcello !!! — Beijing Red 4 Lyf (@Beijingcasuals) June 12, 2014
Please try and score in the right goal this half @12MarceloV.

That’s exactly why… “@tomhamish489: @Marcello you wouldn’t have scored that own goal if you hadn’t cut your hair #selfishbastard”
— Marcello (@Marcello) June 12, 2014
Football fans not English graduates… “@kangaroo_jaack: Worried about the literacy levels of all the people tweeting abuse to @Marcello” — Marcello (@Marcello) June 12, 2014
All joking aside, it’s a football GAME! When is @Twitter going to finally wake up and take action against online trolling?! — Marcello (@Marcello) June 12, 2014
So when does the World Cup finish?
— Marcello (@Marcello) June 13, 2014
“@Marcello: So when does the World Cup finish?” For me, when you die.
