Wisconsin is apparently so intimidating that they can score without even touching the ball.
As if the task of taking on a Big 10 power team like Wisconsin wasn’t daunting enough for Western Illinois, they gave up points without even making the Badgers touch the ball.
On this play, the Western Illinois kick returner muffs the catch and lets the ball roll outside the endzone – but then he does this:
The rule is that when a player takes the ball out of the endzone it immediately becomes live. After a lengthy debate among the referees, the call was eventually made and the Badgers took a 2-0 lead on the opening kickoff without even laying a hand on the ball.
