Clubs should have never let these players go in the first place!
After Chelsea re-signed Nemanja Matic from Benfica last week, fanatix runs down some of football’s returning ‘prodigal sons’ – the players who left their clubs young, only to come back at a later date for big money.
Martin Keown – Left Arsenal in 1986, returned in 1993
The English centre-back made 22 league appearances for Arsenal between 1984 and 1986, before he was shipped out to Aston Villa for £200,000. He then went on to play for Everton too, before the Gunners resigned Keown, aged 27, in 1993 for £2m. In his second spell at the club Keown went on to win three Premier League titles and three FA Cups, making over 300 league appearances the second time around.
