Manchester United have had a difficult season, and things have just got worse with the news that David de Gea has snubbed the club’s latest offer of a new contract.

Manchester United transfer news
CaughtOffside reports that United are increasingly fearful of losing their goalkeeper, with the Spaniard no closer to renewing his deal – and rumours of Real Madrid’s interest are not likely to go away anytime soon.
Although it has been a major blow that big-name signings such as Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao have not performed, it must be said that it would not be a crisis to lose them this summer: Di Maria could move on for a similar fee to what United paid for him, while Falcao’s loan move will simply not be made permanent. De Gea, meanwhile, could be edging closer to leaving for free – an outcome the Red Devils simply cannot consider right now as he has been by far their best player this term, and certainly their only consistent performer in a team otherwise struggling to find its feet.
There are few better goalkeepers in the world right now and any you’d consider an upgrade or even equal to de Gea are simply not available – Manuel Neuer, Thibaut Courtois, Joe Hart – Di Maria and Falcao can be easily replaced, but this is one player who can’t.
Is this Louis van Gaal’s fault for failing to improve the mood at Old Trafford? Or is de Gea simply being wise and seeing that United look like a sinking ship after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement? Things didn’t work out under David Moyes and this season has not been a huge improvement – maybe this is the start of a worrying trend for United.
