It’s been eleven years since Arsenal last won the Premier League title. If they lose to Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium this weekend, their hopes will be over for another twelve months, with the gap to leaders Chelsea likely to be further extended.

However, former Arsenal star Robert Pires believes that his old side deserve to be lifting the title later this season. Indeed, the Frenchman has been full of praise for the Gunners recent performances, which includes a six-match Premier League winning streak.
Despite their positive run of results, they’re still six points adrift of their London-rivals, who also have a game in hand. Last year’s FA Cup win was the club’s first trophy in nine years, but manager Arsene Wenger would be desperate to win further silverware.
Pires, who was quoted by the Daily Mirror ahead of Arsenal’s crucial game at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday lunchtime, told reporters: “In my opinion, this year, Arsenal deserved to be champion, and they won’t be far away. [But] I think, once more, there will be some little regrets at the end of the season.”
“It’s tough and frustrating for the fans. Every time, Arsenal is close. It’s because of the important games that you can’t lose, against Chelsea, [Man] City and [Man] United. But this is the difference. Because against the smaller teams, sometimes there is a misstep or an accident.”
