Arsenal moved past the transfer deadline with no more signings, making goalkeeper Petr Cech their only significant addition of the summer.
Former Gunners winger Paul Merson was not happy with his former clubs passive strategy, and he acknowledged the fans’ anger.
“It cheats the fans. The fans think ‘what are we coming for? We turn up every week, we pay the highest prices and what for?” Merson said, according to the Daily Star.
“Top four? We might get a day out at Wembley again in the FA Cup.’ Wow-wee.”
Gunners striker Danny Welbeck has been ruled out for up to three months with a knee injury, making Wenger’s inability to sign a striker during the summer window an even more bitter pill to swallow.

He already suffered a cartilage injury in April, and he aggravated it after playing despite being advised to have surgery last week.
“It had been hoped he would avoid surgery but after increasing his training workload, the injury to his cartilage did not respond as well as hoped,” Arsenal said in a statement.
Gunners fans will again be relying on Olivier Giroud to be a main outlet up front, and it remains to be seen if Arsenal can snap their streak of 11 seasons without a Premier League title, as they have fallen short despite finishing in the top four in each of those seasons.
