Cesc Fabregas believes Real would be unwise to break world transfer record on Spurs star.
Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas says Real Madrid would be ‘foolish’ to pay £100m for Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.
Real are desperate to sign the Welshman this summer are are reportedly prepared to smash the world transfer record to bring the 23-year-old to Spain.
A £100m deal would eclipse the £80m Los Blancos spent signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in 2009 but the former Arsenal captain does not believe the Spurs man is worth such an astronomical fee.
“For me spending 100million on Gareth Bale is foolish, I don’t know how any club could spend that amount of money in these circumstances,” Fabregas is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
“He is a great player with all the right attributes, but we will have to see if Madrid sign him and if he can perform there.”
In a stunning season, Bale scored 21 league goals and was named PFA Player and Young Player of the Year, as well as Football Writers’ Player of the Year.
Real’s sporting director Zinedine Zidane has been vocal in his admiration of the former Southampton player and has urged Bale to discuss leaving White Hart Lane with the north London club.
Bale is also thought to be a target of Ligue 1 champions PSG, who reportedly want to lure both the forward and boss Andre Villas-Boas to the Parc des Princes this summer.
