The Frenchman, currently in charge of City’s Under-21 side, has been tipped to make the step up into senior management before, having impressed at youth level at the Etihad Stadium.
Although Vieira is relatively inexperienced in this area, he has earned a reputation for being a great leader from his outstanding playing career, particularly his peak years with the Gunners.
According to The Times, the 38-year-old will be considered as a strong candidate even if Klopp is available after making the decision to leave current club Dortmund at the end of this season.
Current manager Manuel Pellegrini looks likely to be sacked after a dreadful recent run of form, with the Chilean seeing his side drop from first place last season to fourth this year and looking uncertain over even making the Champions League.
