Southampton look to strengthen forward line with interesting swoop on Spain for former Gunner.
Southampton are preparing an intriguing move to sign Real Sociedad centre forward Carlos Vela, according to Spanish publication Marca.
The former Arsenal attacker has been in great form since he moved to La Liga in 2011, initially on loan, and last season scored 14 times and supplied 12 assists in his 35 domestic appearances.
It is a contribution he has continued into the current campaign, with eight goals and five assists in his 16 Primera Division matches so far this term.
Vela’s impressive work last season helped Real Sociedad reach the UEFA Champions League group stage, but they crashed out in terrible style as they found themselves unable to match their league form on the continent.
Southampton though are perhaps the most improved team in the Barclays Premier League, and backed by new investors look set to be building a promising side for the future thanks to their blend of youth prospects and bought talent.
Vela, who is still just 24 years of age, could be the next piece in the puzzle.
