Salihamidzic says the German goes missing in big games.
Ahead of the second-leg of the Champions League last-16 tie between Bayern Munich and Arsenal, Hasan Salihamidzic has criticised Gunners’ club record signing Mesut Ozil.
The former Bayern midfielder believes that the Germany international goes missing in the big games – as was shown by Ozil’s woeful performance against the Bundesliga champions in the first-leg.
“It is a big challenge for Ozil to banish this inconsistency from his game,” Salihamidzic told Goal.
“He can be a genius on a lot of moments – and that’s why he played for Real Madrid before – but I cannot explain why he goes missing this often,
“Mesut has to learn to explode even on bad days and he has the potential to do just that.”
The attacking midfielder has come under severe scrutiny of late and has been forced to shoulder more blame than is perhaps fair.
Ozil’s price-tag of £42.4m means that more is expected of the German and rightfully so, although pinpointing the 25-year-old as the sole problem in games such as the 5-1 Premier League defeat to Liverpool is simply unfair.
The north Londoners will need the playmaker at the top of his game if they are to overturn a two goal deficit at the Allianz Arena and a well taken goal against Everton in the FA Cup on Saturday with have been a morale boos for the former Real Madrid man.
