Kezman has shared the striker’s views on national compatriot Matic.
Chelsea are expected to complete the signing of Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic in the next few days and former Blues striker Mateja Kezman says the Serbian will be a hit at Stamford Bridge.
Matic has been strongly linked with a return to west London for some time – having previously been at the club for two years between 2009 and 2011 – and is likely to cost around £25m.
During that time the Serbia international only played three first team games however and was sold to Benfica as part of the deal that saw David Luiz go the other way.
Since then Matic has developed into arguably the best defensive midfielder in Europe and fellow Serb Kezman thinks a return to England is a great choice for the 25-year-old.
“The signing of Matic is a great thing for Chelsea because they have struggled in that position this season,” the retired forward told talkSPORT.
“They have played a couple of different players there, Ramires, Mikel and Lampard, but it hasn’t worked.
“With Matic they will be getting a player who is both offensively and defensively very good. He’s tall, quick and has improved a lot in the last years.
“He’s a completely different player to the one who left Chelsea a couple of years ago. He’s one of the best players in the world in that position.”
Kezman spent a year at the Bridge in 2004/05, playing 39 games and scoring six goals and has pinpointed central midfield as an area of improvement for the club.
Whilst Ramires has looked good, both Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel have struggled and Frank Lampard is approaching the end of the 35-year-old’s career – so Matic could be the ideal acquisition.
