AVB among the candidates to succeed Martino.
With Barcelona head coach Gerardo Martino under fire currently former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has been linked with the job, reports Sport.es.
It’s a sign of the high expectations at the Nou Camp that despite Barca being second in La Liga, through to the final of the Copa del Rey and holding a 2-0 advantage over Manchester City in their Champions League last-16 tie, Martino is still being linked with the sack.
This is because the hierarchy at the club are not happy with the Argentinian’s style of play, which is considered to be second class when compared to that of Pep Guardiola.
Villas-Boas is among a five man shortlist to take over from the 51-year-old as early as next season, with Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp, Luis Enrique (Celta Vigo) and Ernesto Valverde (Athletic Bilbao) making up the list.
The latter two are considered to be the favourites currently, although Valverde has just committed to Athletic Club for the next two years and therefore former Barca star Enrique is leading the way.
Of course with AVB being currently unemployed after being sacked by Spurs in December 2013, signing up the 36-year-old would be the easiest of the bunch.
Despite having been dismissed from his last two jobs the Portuguese coach is still a highly respected figure in Catalonia due to his style of play.
Sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is also keeping a close eye on the development of Roberto Martinez at Everton and Vincenzo Montella at Fiorentina.
