Current manager Carlo Ancelotti may have won a double of the Champions League and Copa del Rey in his first season in charge at the Bernabeu last term, but his expensively-assembled squad are struggling so far this term with recent defeats to Real Sociedad and arch rivals Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
Fichajes.com claims that Napoli boss Benitez, who has won honours in Spain and England, could be a serious contender to take the post if the club do part company with Ancelotti.
Benitez himself has worked with Real before, coaching their B-team in the early 90s, and would love a crack at the top job at the Bernabeu.
