VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer, with the cashed-up Premier League giants prepared to break the bank for the Belgian international.
However, it seems City will miss out on its prime target, as the Belgian international has confirmed that he will stay in Germany.
“This season I will definitely play for Wolfsburg,” De Bruyne said, according to the Sky Sports transfer centre.
Since struggling at Chelsea, De Bruyne has shined in the Bundesliga.
The 24-year-old scored 10 goals created 20 assists in the 2014-15 season for Wolfsburg, which made the midfielder a prime candidate for a return to the Premier League.
However, Man City will have to move on without landing their top target.
City have gotten off to a strong start this season with comfortable wins over West Bromwich Albion and defending champions Chelsea.
