Talks begin between Chelsea and striker Radamel Falcao
Radamel Falcao in numbers: Man United’s worst signing ever?
According to reports, Villas-Boas wants Falcao to join the club to reunite a plethora of players that helped lead Porto to their Europa League success in 2011.
Zenit is looking to not only acquire Monaco’s Falcao, but also Joao Moutinho according to a Saint Petersburg’s newspaper Sports Daily.
Apparently, Monaco is willing to say goodbye to the the Columbian striker after Manchester United decide not to turn his loan into a permanent deal for a staggering £40 million last month. The Ligue 1 club want about £32m, but other clubs are valuing him around £25m.
Despite Zenit’s interest, the 29-year-old has also caught the eye of Valencia, Juventus, and even Chelsea. But Villas-Boas is determined to make the deal work, luring him in with the memories of their great time together in Portugal.
By going to Zenit, Falcao would be able to team up with Brazilian striker Hulk and possibly with the creative midfielder Moutinho. The three together were key in Porto’s incredible 2010-2011 season. That term helped get Falcao to Atletico Madrid as well as Villa-Boas the managing job at Chelsea.
This is definitely a prolific and possible trade, as Zenit is willing to spend a large amount of money in order to be more competitive in the Champions League.
Despite Villa-Boa’s interest, there have been rumours that he is wanted by AC Milan.
