West Ham United could be making progress in their efforts to sign free agent Samuel Eto’o this summer, with the club having held contract talks with the former Chelsea man, according to the Times.
The Hammers are in need of new signings upfront after an injury to star player Andy Carroll, and are also reported to be looking at Besiktas striker Hugo Almeida as an option in that position.
However, the prospect of signing an experienced and proven forward such as Eto’o for free will no doubt be appealing, and the club will be hoping to persuade the veteran Cameroon international to choose a move to Upton Park as the next stage in his career.
The 33-year-old, who has also played for Barcelona and Inter Milan in a glittering career in European football, scored 12 times for Chelsea last season, but failed to win an extension to his one-year deal at Stamford Bridge, and is now thought to be negotiating with a number of clubs ahead of the new season.
