Uruguayan international closing in on exit from Italy.
Napoli striker Edinson Cavani looks set to be confirmed as a PSG player on Monday, as he arrives in Paris for his medical ahead of a €63m move.
The 26-year-old is finally set to bring an end to one of the most high-profile transfer sagas of the summer, with the Ligue 1 champions reportedly set to pay Napoli the striker’s €63m release clause fee.
There had been interest from England with both Manchester City and Chelsea linked with making bids, but neither side were able to satisfy the requirement of the release clause fee, thus paving the way for the Parisians to land their man.
Cavani scored 29 goals in Serie A last season, and has established himself as one of the most prolific marksmen in world football.
Despite the arrival of Rafa Benitez and the guarantee of Champions League football following their second-placed finish last season, it became apparent during the summer that Cavani would leave if a suitable bid was made.
Fortunately for owner Aurelio De Laurentiis, the striker respected his demands and remained loyal to the club throughout, but it would appear that his time in Naples is rapidly drawing to an end.
The Uruguayan international landed in Paris on Monday morning according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, and will undergo his medical and sign his new contract later in the afternoon.
It is expected that he will be officially unveiled to the media on Tuesday, although reports had suggested the formalities would have been completed last week. Nevertheless, it is just a matter of time before coach Laurent Blanc will have a new striker to lead his line.
