Former England, Manchester City and Everton centre-back Joleon Lescott has handed-out an extraordinary threat to new club West Brom.
According to reports in the Daily Mirror, the 31-year-old is ready to quit the midlands club, claiming that Albion have ‘broken promises’, within four weeks of him joining the club.
The Baggies – who narrowly avoided relegation last season – pulled off a coup by landing the England defender on a free transfer from Manchester City.
West Brom convinced Lescott he would not be stuck in a fresh battle against the drop as they intended to sign more exciting new players.
However, the club have so far failed to deliver the fresh talent that Lescott was seemingly promised to work with.
Of Albion’s initial targets, Emmanuel Riviere chose to join Newcastle United, Enner Valencia movec to West Ham United, and Jefferson Montero looks set for Swansea City.
West Brom have instead signed Dynamo Kiev striker Brown Ideye for a club record £10m fee, a player that failed even to make Nigeria’s World Cup squad this summer.
New boss Alan Irvine admitted the club are struggling to complete deals. The former Everton coach said: “We have good players here, no question, but there are big gaps.
“We’re doing a lot of work behind the scenes, but it’s harder getting signings over the line than it used to be.”
