Duo showing early signs of being prolific this season.
Former Fiorentina boss Emiliano Mondonico believes that Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez are the best striker partnership in Serie A.
The German international joined the club this summer from treble winners Bayern Munich, in a move believed to worth around an initial €15.5m.
Meanwhile, Rossi returned to Italy back in January, but missed the majority of the end of the last campaign as he continued his recovery from a knee injury.
With both players fit and playing together up-front for Viola boss Vincenzo Montella this season, the results have been almost instant as Rossi has bagged three goals in two games, while Gomez scored twice in the 5-2 win at Genoa last weekend.
Much has been made of the potential the partnership has, and with early signs of some chemistry and understanding they could prove to be the most prolific in Serie A this season according to Mondonico.
“Fiorentina did really well on the transfer market,” the 66-year-old former Viola boss told TMW on Friday as quoted by Football Italia.
“Gomez may not end up as the Capocannoniere, but the Gomez-Rossi partnership is the best matched in the whole championship.
“I’m sure that they will be the most prolific pairing by the time the season ends,” he added.
Having finished fourth last season, Fiorentina will undoubtedly be targeting a place in the top-three this year in order to break into the Champions League.
With the likes of Joaquin, Josip Ilicic and Massimo Ambrosini also joining the club this past summer, Montella has a solid squad at his disposal to achieve their objectives.
