Former Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri has never been one to shy away from giving a controversial answer to a question – and the Mail have reported that the Frenchman has identified Chelsea, rather than Arsenal, as his club Manchester City’s big title rivals for the coming season.
Nasri, who moved to Eastlands from Arsenal, believes that his former club are still a defender and a defensive midfielder short of where they need to be:
“I think Chelsea will be the biggest threat. For me, Arsenal still have a weakness in defensive mid and at centre-back.”
With Chelsea having strengthened significantly with the likes of Filipe Luis, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, Nasri’s comments are understandable, but are still likely to be a source of annoyance to Arsenal fans.
Nasri has also blasted the Arsenal fans who give him abuse when he returns to face his former club, describing it as ‘stupid’, but insists that it doesn’t affect his performances on the pitch:
“The abuse doesn’t affect me on the pitch, I just think it’s stupid. I’m not an Arsenal fan, I am not from London. If we want to be honest, we are players who look at what is in the the best interests for us and our career.”
