Sissokho appears to have fallen from grace since Anfield and the Parc des Princes.
Reading are closing in on an unlikely coup for ex-Liverpool midfielder Mohamad Sissokho, after the 28-year-old was released by Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The Championship side – who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season – are putting together a contract offer for the Mali international and hope to sign Sissokho in the near future.
“The owner has worked extremely hard on that to tell him the project and what we’re trying to achieve here,” the Royals’ director of football Nick Hammond was quoted by Sky Sports.
“He has been here to look round and see what we are all about. He’s a free agent with a good background and will take his time to look at options, which we understand.”
It will be a fall from grace for the midfielder, who has also played for Valencia, Juventus and Fiorentina during an illustrious career that has seen the African win the FA Cup, La Liga and the UEFA Cup.
Some argue that Sissokho has not been the same player since an eye injury in 2006 permanently damaged the Malian’s eyesight.
Playing at the Madejski Stadium would probably confirm that truth to many, but with a good squad at the Berkshire side there is every chance Reading will bounce back to the English top tier this term.
Likewise, Sissokho’s combative and physical playing style will make the former Reds ace perfectly suited to life in the Championship.
