Paul Ince, a former Liverpool captain, claims his son Tom Ince rejected Liverpool’s advances during the January transfer window, the Mirror reports.
Instead the pacey young winger decided to sign on loan for Crystal Palace, and he could join them permanently in the summer when his Blackpool contract runs out.
“Liverpool were in but I don’t think Thomas is ready to go to Liverpool yet, ” said Paul, who made 81 appearances for the Reds in the late 1990s.
“Brendan [Rodgers] has done very well there and he does play the kids but for his progression as a footballer it needed to be a Stoke, a Swansea, a Palace or a Hull at this point.
“Maybe in two or three years’ time that might be a move for him.”
Liverpool were desperate to bring in a proven international quality wide man, so fans will perhaps not be too upset they missed out on Ince, who they let go as an academy graduate earlier in his career.
The Reds almost signed Yevhen Konoplyanka on deadline day, but a move fell through – and after losing out on Mohemed Salah to Chelsea earlier in the month, they failed to bring in any new faces.
