Former Liverpool ace Javier Mascherano says he hopes Barcelona teammate Pedro rejects a move to Manchester United to remain at the Catalan club.
Pedro came off the bench in Tuesday’s UEFA Super Cup final to score a dramatic winner in an incredible 5-4 win over fellow La Liga side Sevilla in Tbilisi.
Recent reports suggest that it could be Pedro’s last goal for Barcelona, with Manchester United understood to be keen to wrap up a £22m deal for the 28-year-old attacker.
Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernandez on Tuesday revealed that Pedro had effectively handed in a transfer request as the winger is looking for increased first-team action.
“Hopefully [Pedro] can continue here,” Mascherano was quoted as saying by Daily Express.
“He’s one of those players who are made for special occasions like these and is still with us for the time being.”
Pedro is believed to frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities at the Camp Nou, with the front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez keeping the winger out of the starting XI.
