Xabi Alonso has told reporters that he intends to stay at Real Madrid next season.
Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has confirmed that he will stay with the Spanish club next season, despite interest from former club Liverpool and Chelsea.
Ater the win over Malaga at the weekend, the pass-master expressed his desire to stay at the Bernabeu next season.
“Of course I’m going to be here next season,” Alonso is quoted as saying by SportsVibe.
The 31-year old has had a superb year in the heart of Madrid’s midfield, but has reportedly been reluctant to sign a new deal in the Spanish capital, amid reports the former Real Sociedad man is waiting to see where boss Jose Mourinho ends up before deciding his future.
Liverpool have been looking for a genuine replacement for Alonso ever since he left the club in 2009 to join the La Liga giants.
It should come as no surprise then that the Anfield club are interested in attempting to lure Alonso back to the club, where he remains a fan favourite. However with a limited budget and lack of European football at Anfield next season, it may be hard to convice the Spaniard to make the switch.
