After a loan spell with Aston Villa to close out his contract with Manchester United, free agent midfielder Tom Cleverley has chosen Everton over Arsenal.
According to the Metro, Cleverley turned down a transfer offer from the Gunners and decided to reunite with Roberto Martinez – his former manager during a successful loan spell with Wigan Athletic – over at Goodson Park.
The 25-year-old Cleverley made 55 appearances for Man United from 2009 until 2015, recording three goals, but he had even more success during loan spells to Leicester City, Watford Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa. Last season while on loan to Aston Villa, Cleverley recorded three goals in 37 appearances as the club staved off elimination and made it to the FA Cup Final.
The Metro reported that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was eager to bring Cleverley to Emirates Stadium, which will likely make the actual outcome rather shocking to Gooner fans.
