Dutch international had been of interest to Premier League champions.
Roma are set to complete the signing of PSV midfielder Kevin Strootman, with the Dutchman expected to arrive in Italy on Tuesday evening.
The 23-year-old had previously been linked with a move to England with Manchester United, but it would appear that while they switched their attention elsewhere, Roma have landed the Dutch international.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma will pay €18m plus bonuses for the midfielder, while offering a salary of €2.2m per season in a four-year deal.
It is understood that the details have now all been agreed on by the three parties concerned, and Strootman will arrive at Fiumicino airport in Rome at 18:30 local time on Tuesday.
He will then carry out the required tests and put pen to paper on his new deal, before potentially linking up with his new team-mates at pre-season training later this week.
Strootman has received countless plaudits for the ability that he has displayed during his time in the Eredivisie, and he will hope that his move to the Serie A giants will help him further establish himself both in Europe and on the international stage.
He is another big-name signing to arrive in Italy this summer, while new Roma coach Rudi Garcia will ideally like to field him alongside Italian international Daniele De Rossi.
Whether the Dutchman’s arrival will have an impact on the 29-year-old’s future at the club remains to be seen, but despite interest from Chelsea Garcia has stated that he hopes the talismanic midfielder will stay at the club ahead of the new seaosn.
