New England Patriots release LB Brandon Spikes after freeway accident
Spikes was released after being involved in a car accident, which he has since been cited by the police for.
In the incident, a vehicle that was registered under Spikes’ name rear-ended another car that had a family of three inside, including a 12-year-old boy.
All three of the passengers were mildly injured in the accident, and the driver of the car responsible for the accident fled the scene.
The driver had reported that a deer was hit during the accident, but no deer was found during the investigation.
Spikes is expected to possibly face up to two years in jail if he is found guilty of causing this accident and leaving the scene.
His NFL career has spanned over five seasons, as he was drafted by the Patriots in 2010 before playing four seasons with them.
He left in free agency for the Buffalo Bills before the Patriots won the Super Bowl, but he returned to his original team before his legal troubles surfaced.
