According to News Corp, Hayne clocked a time of 4.53 seconds over 40 yards, making him quicker than a majority of elite American college players.
Hayne is expected to announce a deal with the Lions in the coming days, but is expected to be placed on the ‘future’s list’.
NFL teams use future’s contracts for players who they believe are not quite good enough to justify an active spot in the current list, but may be worth an active roster spot for the next season.
Hayne’s 40-year dash time was 0.6 seconds quicker than the average running back’s time at the NFL combine, putting him in good stead for a deal at the Lions.
Lions coach Jim Caldwell has already expressed his interest in Hayne, and is in pole position to sign the 27-year-old Australian.
