McDonald is now a free agent, but he said that he plans to sue his rape accuser for defamation of character.
“I feel like what I am doing is the right thing because I know that I am not this bad person that people are making me out to be,” McDonald said to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.
McDonald was accused of assaulting his girlfriend shortly before the 2014 season began, but he was not suspended or deactivated like Ray Rice and Greg Hardy.
However, his sexual assault accusation was enough for the 49ers to cut him for “a pattern of poor decision making.”
NFL on ESPN reported on McDonald’s decision to sue on Twitter.
