Winner Lewis Hamilton and second-placed Nico Rosberg lapped all but three cars at Albert Park on Sunday, a sign of what is to come to the remainder of the season.
Ricciardo, who battled drivability issues to finish in sixth, said he felt sorry for the fans.
“I feel a bit for the fans,” Ricciardo is quoted as saying by AAP.
“It was a boring race. It was frustrating. It wasn’t the most exciting race.
“We finished the race and got some points which was positive, and there are things we can learn. I think on paper sixth was the best for us today.”
Hamilton began the race on pole and never looked like relinquishing the lead despite coming under late pressure from teammate Rosberg.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel completed the podium after holding off Williams driver Felipe Massa.
