Chambers arrived at the Emirates from Southampton for £16m last summer, but the emergence of Hector Bellerin has left him behind the Spaniard and Mathieu Debuchy as Arsenal’s third-choice right-back.
He is capable of playing in central defence and in holding midfield, but is some way down the pecking order in those positions too and Mourinho may view him as an attractive alternative to rumoured target Toby Alderweireld.
