Grass isn’t always greener
Those Arsenal fans looking to get rid of Arsene Wenger might well remember that the wily Frenchman is the most successful manager in the club’s history – and given his impact on the north London side, he will not be an easy man to replace.
Wenger is one of the few managerial auteurs, who – like Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United before retirement – has a hand in almost every element of the Gunners’ match preparation, training and transfer market investment – as well on game day itself.
David Moyes certainly struggled to replace Ferguson at Old Trafford, and those pining for change might remember that a surprise appointment with little notice might not always work out.
If Wenger does elect to leave – and the Arsenal board appear to have no inclination that he will – a successor will have to be drilled on every aspect of the club.
Perhaps in three years’ time, the right man will be available, and a smooth transition can be implemented.
