4. Erik LamelaLamela had a bit of a nightmare debut season in England.
He arrived with high expectations, having become Tottenham’s record signing, and he was seen by many as the natural replacement for Gareth Bale.
However, Bale was, of course, irreplaceable and throwing Lamela in at the deep end – he made he debut in a North London derby just hours after signing – did not work.
The Argentina international also struggled with injuries, meaning that, in total, he featured in just nine Premier League games, including only three starts.
Lamela should not be given up on though. Spurs had valid reasons for spending £25m on him. He scored 15 goals and made five assists in Serie A during the 2012-13 season with Roma.
He is still only 22 and Spurs will be made to regret it if they let him go this summer.
Fortunately, fellow Argentine Pochettino is the ideal man to get Lamela’s career back on track.
Furthermore, Lamela has not been moaning about his problems and seeking out a move to a sunnier and less pressurised destination.
Instead, the boy from Buenos Aires is working hard and determined to be a success in what is widely considered to be the toughest league in the world.
