Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye wants to join the Gunners.
Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye has his heart set on a move to Arsenal but the clubs are yet to agree a fee for the 27-year-old.
The Evening Chronicle, a Newcastle-based daily, says French sources have confirmed that Cabaye has settled for a move to the Emirates Stadium and his representatives are eagerly waiting to hold talks with Arsenal.
Arsenal eyeing shock move for legendary Real Madrid star
Cabaye refused to play for the Toon for the a second time in six days in the weekend stalemate with West Ham.
It is believed the France international informed Magpies boss Alan Pardew that he did not wish to be involved against the Hammers and the playmaker could yet face a fine for opting out of the club’s opening two Premier League matches.
Arsenal are thought to be the only firm bidders for the former Lille man, although PSG boss Laurent Blanc is a long-standing admirer of the player and recently admitted his ‘love’ for Cabaye.
But French daily L’Equipe, usually reliable on PSG’s transfer dealings, reported that the Parisiens’ interest in Cabaye had cooled on Friday.
The Gunners have already had an £11m bid rejected by Newcastle and are set to return with a £13m offer on Tuesday.
However, it is believed Newcastle want closer to £15m for the Frenchman, with director of football Joe Kinnear insisting that Arsenal know the asking price.
“We’ve told Arsenal our terms,” Kinnear told the Daily Mirror. “The ball is in their court.”
Newcastle’s lack of activity in the transfer market has angered fans this summer and Pardew stressed the club needed to sign a quality replacement if Cabaye departs.
“You can’t say he is definitely going to stay, so the mindset of the player is such, that we need to be on guard,” Pardew told the Chronicle.
“We need to resolve it. If he goes, good luck to him. Bye, bye.
“We need to replace him with somebody as good.”
