France will be keen to get off to a winning start against Honduras tonight as favourites in Group E, but their opposition on this occasion will be no pushovers as they showed in a recent 0-0 friendly draw with England.
Didier Deschamps’ side will not include some of the household names we are used to, with the golden generation that won the World Cup back in 1998 now entirely replaced by many new faces, though big names such as Karim Benzema, Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann will still be hoping to stake their claim as being among the stars of this summer’s tournament in Brazil.
Honduras, meanwhile, boast only two players from what would be classed as Europe’s top five leagues, with Stoke City midfielder Wilson Palacios and Hull City defender Maynor Figueroa, and will need to be at their best to stand a chance of getting a result against the French.
Arsenal duo Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny are hoping to start for France, who have no current injury worries, but it remains to be seen exactly how Deschamps’ side will line up this evening.
