Italy legend hopes that midfielder will reject move to Premier League.
Roma captain Francesco Totti has told team-mate Daniele De Rossi to stay at the club beyond the summer so that they can “win something great together”.
The midfielder turned 30 on Wednesday, and throughout his career has been linked with an exit from the Stadio Olimpico.
Speculation has suggested that it could be a real possibility this summer, with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho looking to bring in the Italian international ahead of his second stint in England.
However, as De Rossi returned to pre-season training with the Giallorossi on Wednesday after being given extended holidays following his participation in the Confederations Cup, he was greeted by a personal birthday message from his long-time team-mate.
“Ciao Dani, best wishes for turning 30, though you’re getting old now and practically finished!
“It’s better if you give us the present, so stay here at Roma and at least we’ll win something great together. Ciao bello!,” he told Roma Channel as quoted by Football Italia.
It is unclear at this stage as to whether the 30-year-old will commit his future to the capital club, or be tempted by a move abroad. However, given his deep connection with Roma having come through the youth ranks and grown into an icon amongst the supporters, it is speculated that he will remain.
However, he will hope for a much improved season on both a personal level and for the team, with new coach Rudi Garcia benefiting from significant backing in the transfer market Roma will hope to be competitive in Serie A this year.
