Serbian suggests this his representatives were in negotiations with the Gunners.
Arsenal may have found their striker on transfer deadline day, with the Gunners completing a £16 million move for Danny Welbeck from rivals Manchester United, but free agent Nikola Zigic has claimed that he was close to making the move to the Emirates Stadium, report the Daily Star.
Zigic was briefly linked with a shock move to the Emirates Stadium – and it seemed that such a switch may have been closer than first thought:
“My agent was talking with Arsenal but they finally opted for another player.”
“We talked with them until the last days of the market. I am very happy because Arsenal had me on their list.”
The towering Serbian international was released by Birmingham City at the end of last season, having helped the Blues to secure Championship survival with a dramatic final day draw at Bolton Wanderers’ Reebok Stadium.
His best moment in a blue shirt came at Wembley, ironically against Arsenal, when he headed in the opening goal as Alex McLeish’s side shocked the Gunners to lift the 2011 League Cup.
