4. Wilson Palacios
The energetic midfielder shot to stardom in England with fine short stints at Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic, before Tottenham Hotspur came calling in 2009. He helped Spurs qualify for the Champions League under Harry Redknapp, only to fall out of favour at White Hart Lane. A £10m move to Stoke City followed, but he made just 14 starts in four Premier League seasons for the Potters prior to his release this summer. Many people believe the Honduran international’s decline as a Premier League force is linked to the horrific off-field trauma endured by his family. His brother was kidnapped and murdered, with his body discovered during Wilson’s time at Spurs.
