Jol and Co will be hoping to record a rare away win in the north east.
Fulham begin the 2013-14 Premier League season with a trip to take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday Aug 17 in what will be a potentially testing opening encounter for Martin Jol’s Cottagers, especially given their poor record on the road in the top flight in recent years.
Last time out the west London club managed to secure a 12th-place finish in the table come the end of the campaign, which was respectable, although earlier on in the season it had appeared as though the club would finish in the top ten of the standings.
And so the Dutchman will be hoping for a more consistent season next time around from his charges, rather than the nervous fight against relegation that the club had to endure towards the end of the previous campaign.
As ever with Fulham, much will depend on the goalscoring abilities of mercurial Bulgaria front man Dimitar Berbatov, who inevitably ended the last season as the Cottagers’ top scorer.
