Weaknesses
While age is not a weakness, Hangeland turns 32 in June and Wenger may reasonably feel the centre-back will soon no longer be in his prime.
With just 1.3 successful tackles per match this season, there are also question marks about this side of Hangeland’s game. While the former Copenhagen man has no problems challenging opponents in the air, he seems to come off second best on the deck, which could prove a problem against most skilful opponents, particularly in Europe.
It would also be fair to say that, despite his age and international experience, Hangeland is as yet untested in a pressure cooker environment like the Emirates, where two consecutive losses constitutes (yet another) crisis. The defender has flourished at Craven Cottage, where expectations are low but will find the twin challenges of a bid for the Premier League top four and an assault on either the Europa League or Champions League a different experience altogether – should he join Arsenal.
