The Turkish champions have been interested all summer, and have finally submitted a bid for the man who could be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Galatasaray have bid £10m for Chelsea’s Nigerian midfielder Jon Obi Mikel. The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge all summer but it has taken up until now for Galatasaray to officially make an offer.
The Express report that whilst French moneybags AS Monaco and former Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez’s new side Napoli are interested it is the Turks who have made the first move.
Since Mourinho’s return to West London he has opted to play Frank Lampard and Ramires in the deep-lying midfield role within Chelsea’s midfield, meaning Mikel would have to compete with not only those two starters but also Michael Essien, Marko van Ginkel and Kevin DeBruyne for playing time.
As to whether Mikel himself would consider a move, he was recently quoted as saying, “I have a four-year contract with Chelsea but you know, in football you can never guess. One day you are here, the next day you might leave.”
Mikel would also have to be willing to take a pay cut in order to facilitate a move to Galatasaray, where he could link up with former teammate Didier Drogba.
