Regular left-back Marcelo is suspended for the game, having picked up a yellow card in the goalless first leg, meaning someone will have to fill in for the corresponding fixture at the Bernabeu.
Supporters of the La Liga giants took part in a poll in daily Madrid-based newspaper Marca, with the publication asking who should take the Brazilian’s place on the left side of Carlo Ancelotti’s backline.
Bale came out on top in the poll with 50.1% of the votes, followed by Portugal international Fabio Coentrao with 37.4%, while Nacho got 6.5% and former Liverpool star Alvaro Arbeloa received only 6%.
Welsh attacker Bale began his career as a left full-back at Southampton and then Tottenham Hotspur, but he was converted to a more offensive player by the north London outfit, which sparked a remarkable improvement in his game.
It remains to be seen whether Ancelotti will sacrifice Bale’s attacking talents for a night of defensive duties.
