The world record fee the Welshman will command gives Spurs a new first team.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy may come into criticism but the Spurs man knows how to get the most value out of a coveted player.
The sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in a deal that will break the world record transfer, will see Spurs bring in no less than six new stars.
Madrid are prepared to cough up a mammoth £93m for the Welshman and are keen to use left-back Fabio Coentrao as a makeweight in the negotiations.
With Tottenham closing in on Anzhi Makhachkala star Willian as a like-for-like replacement for Bale, this could mean that six new players have arrived at White Hart Lane for the 24-year-old’s fee.
The north London club have already broken their own club record transfer twice this summer with the arrival of Paulinho and then Roberto Soldado, with Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue having also been recruited.
Buying Willian will break it once more and take their total outlay for the window to £89m – still £4m short of the fee they will receive for Bale.
With Coentrao also arriving at Spurs once personal terms can be settled, this will mean Paulinho, Chadli, Soldado, Capoue, Willian and the Portugal international will amount to the same cost as the Welsh wizard.
Admittedly replacing Bale is an impossible task, but by improving the team in all areas Tottenham will arguably be a better all round side without the winger.
