Ex-midfielder backs under fire Rossoneri coach.
Former AC Milan star Gennaro Gattuso has insisted that Massimiliano Allegri is not “dead in the water” yet despite the club’s struggles this season.
The Milan boss has come under fire in recent weeks as the Rossoneri sit 13 points adrift of the top three after 10 games of the season.
However, Gattuso believes that the club will continue to support him as the pressure increases, while he also had words of advice for Mario Balotelli.
“If Allegri’s bench is starting to creak, then the club will do everything possible to stabilise it. He is not dead in the water, so I wouldn’t assume he’s done for,” he said according to Football Italia.
“Kaka is no longer the player he was in 2007, but he remains an example for everyone. Today Milan need tranquillity, but instead people just talk about hairstyles and earrings when things go wrong.
“As for Balotelli, he needs to be looked after more. On the other hand, he does damage on Twitter and I don’t understand that. The problem is with this generation of young people, not just him.”
With speculation linking him with an exit next summer, Balotelli has found himself in the newspapers over the past fortnight for all the wrong reasons.
It has also coincided with a dip in form on the pitch but he has continued to be supported by the club through difficult times.
Gattuso also shared his opinion on the race for Champions League, and insisted that both Fiorentina and Inter Milan remain in the hunt as well as the current top three.
The former midfielder enforcer went on to claim it was “laughable” when people say Gervinho has been a surprise for Roma considering his form for Lille, while also had admiration for former national team-mates Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti.
