Geelong star Steven Johnson will miss Friday’s clash with Carlton at Etihad Stadium after being ruled out with an injured foot.
Johnson was cleared of any structural damage to the foot and up until yesterday the club had not ruled him out of the clash with the Blues.
The midfielder was spotted on crutches on Tuesday at Simonds Stadium and the Cats today confirmed they would not risk their key man in the lead up to the AFL finals.
Johnson had scans on Tuesday after suffering soreness in his right foot after the Geelong’s nailbiting win over Fremantle on Saturday.
The 31-year-old told Fox Sports News that he had been cleared of any serious damage, though he still has soreness in the foot.
“It’s not too bad, I had scans yesterday and they’ve come up that I don’t have any fractures so it’s just about how I manage it going forward,” Johnson said.
With just three rounds left to go in the home and away season, the Cats will be hoping Johnson will be available for their Round 22 clash with Hawthorn as the club looks to maintain its top four status.
