British super-middleweight star George Groves has been added to the bill at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on November 22 and will face American Denis Douglin.
Groves returns to the ring after his unanimous decision victory over Christopher Rebrasse for the European title back in September, and the Saint will now look to keep busy ahead of potential title fight next year.
Douglin (17-3 10 KOs) insists that it is big opportunity for him to take another step closer to realising his dream of winning a world title, and he is adamant that he is coming to Liverpool to defeat Groves (20-2 15 KOs).
“I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring,’’ said Groves.
“This is a chance for me to impress on a big card. I plan to steal the show. It’s a calculated risk, lose this fight and I lose my shot at Dirrell. But I want to stay active, I want to box as regularly as possible and I’m confident I can get the job done.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed his delight with securing Groves to the bill as it gives fans the opportunity to see James DeGale, Callum Smith and Groves all in action on the same night.
DeGale takes on Marco Antonio Periban in his own battle to earn a world title shot, while Smith is looking to put himself into a mandatory challenger spot for the WBC title.
All three men are set to appear on Ringside on Sky Sports on October 23, and it promises to be explosive, particularly between DeGale and Groves who have a long-lasting rivalry.
