Schalke’s Draxler remains firmly in the Gunners’ sights.
Germany and Schalke 04 starlet Julian Draxler remains a target for Arsenal but manager Arsene Wenger will wait until after the World Cup to make a move, according to the Sun.
The 20-year-old has revealed that the attacking midfielder would be interested in a switch to north London and has been speaking to Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil.
“I won’t switch in January but who knows what will happen in the summer? Arsenal is a very nice team,” Draxler was quoted by the Sun.
“I sometimes speak to Mesut or Per about the club and they’ve only good words.
“They always have very young players and play attractive football.
“But I’d better not speak too much because I think the people at Schalke would not like to hear it.”
These are very promising comments for the Gunners, who are starting something of a German revolution at the Emirates Stadium – with Mertesacker, Ozil and Lukas Podolski already at the club.
However, with the World Cup in Brazil next summer looming, Draxler does not want to jeopardise any chances of making the national squad by leaving Schalke and Wenger will respect those wishes in order to land the youngster after the tournament.
The Germany international is one of the hottest prospects in world football currently, having already played 127 matches for Schalke since breaking into the first team in 2011, as well as having earned 10 caps.
The winger generally operates from the left flank, but can also play on the right and as a No.10 behind the striker and would be another exciting arrival in north London.
