One of the most humiliating defeats in Women’s World Cup history took place, as Germany demolished Ivory Coast with a 10-0 victory.
This marks the second-biggest defeat in history, which falls behind a 2007 group stage match that took place between Germany and Argentina.
Germany immediately got on the board with a goal as Celia Sisac scored just three minutes into the match, and she scored another goal 15 minutes in to extend the lead to 2-0.
Anja Mattig joined in on the fun for Germany by scoring the third goal of the match, but Sisac went back to her dominant scoring ways and notched a hat trick just two minutes later.
Mattig scored another goal later on to give Germany a 5-0 halftime lead, and she later scored again to log in a hat trick of her own.
Germany did not take their foot off the gas, as they continued to make fools of Ivory Coast before Alexandra Popp scored the 10th goal of the match.
This game marked the Ivory Coast women’s squad’s first World Cup match in team history, but it obviously did not go as they had hoped.
Meanwhile, Germany played as dominantly as they could to follow up their men’s 2014 World Cup title run.
Since this game cannot be squeezed into just two or three highlights, here is a video of all 10 goals scored by Germany.
