Chelsea and Manchester United on alert after German wonderkid reveals he dreams of a transfer to one of the Premier League club.
Chelsea and Manchester United have received a boost in their prospective pursuit of FC Schalke 04 star Julian Draxler after the 19 year-old admitted that he dreams of a move to either club.
The teenager is considered one of the hottest prospects in Germany, having broken into the Schalke side in January 2011 at the age of just 17 and quickly become a first team regular.
Ten goals and four assists in the Bundesliga last season coupled with some fine performances in the UEFA Champions League have boosted his reputation across Europe, and it is no surprise that Premier League giants Man Utd and Chelsea have been linked with a deal.
“Which boy doesn’t dream about playing for Real, Barca, Chelsea or Manchester United?” said Draxler in the Metro.
“There is nothing to be ashamed of.”
Draxler became a full international for Germany in May 2012, after being included in the squad to that reached the semi finals of UEFA Euro 2012.
He is expected to move to a bigger club in Europe either this summer or in one of the following transfer windows, despite only recently signing a new contract extension with FC Schalke 04.
With Oscar, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Marko Marin, Ramires and soon Andre Schurrle competing for a place in the line-up at Stamford Bridge – as well as possibly Kevin De Bruyne next season – it would be very hard for Draxler to break into the Chelsea team, and he may have more luck at Manchester United should David Moyes elect to bring him to Old Trafford.
Should FC Barcelona and Real Madrid elect to enter the market for Draxler though, a bidding war may drive his price up close to the €45 million (approximately £38 million) that his release clause.
